【摘要】:TheacquisitionofchemicalinformationfromvariationsintheenergypositionofpeaksintheXPSspectrumisofprimaryinterestintheuseofXPSasasurfaceanalyticaltool.Surfacechargingactstoshiftspectralpeaksindependentoftheirchemicalrelationshiptootherelementsonthesamesurface.ThedesiretoeliminatetheinfluenceofsurfacechargingonthepeakpositionsandpeakshapeshasresultedinthedevelopmentofseveralempiricalmethodsdesignedtoassistintheinterpretationoftheXPSpeakpositions,determinesurfacechemistry,andallowcomparisonofspectraofconductingandnonconductingsystemsofthesameelement.Itisassumedthatthespectrometerisgenerallyworkingproperlyfornon-insulatingspecimens(seePracticeE902).Noidealmethodhasbeendevelopedtodealwithsurfacecharging(3,4).Forinsulators,anappropriatechoiceofanycontrolorreferencingsystemwilldependonthenatureofthespecimen,theinstruments,andtheinformationneeded.Theappropriateuseofchargecontrolandreferencingtechniqueswillresultinmoreconsistent,reproducibledata.Researchersarestronglyurgedtoreportboththecontrolandreferencingtechniquesthathavebeenused,thespecificpeaksandbindingenergiesusedasstandards(ifany),andthecriteriaappliedindeterminingoptimumresultssothattheappropriatecomparisonsmaybemade.1.1ThisguidecoverstheacquaintingoftheXPSuserwiththevariouschargecontrolandchargeshiftreferencingtechniquesthatareandhavebeenusedintheacquisitionandinterpretationofX-rayphotoelectronspectroscopy(XPS)datafromsurfacesofinsulatingspecimens.1.2ThisguideisintendedtoapplytochargecontrolandchargereferencingtechniquesinXPSandisnotnecessarilyapplicabletoelectron-excitedsystems.1.3SIunitsarestandardunlessotherwisenoted.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyproblems,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
